LONDON â€" A 1,900-metric ton (2,094-ton) steel jacket has departed the Karimun yard in Indonesia for BP’s Tangguh expansion complex offshore Papua Barat province, Indonesia.

This was the first major piece of hardware for the development. On arrival at the offshore location the 69-m (226-ft) tall structure will be launched in a water depth of 60 m (197 ft) and set down in its final position.

Later this year, the topsides of the platform will follow the same route for positioning on the jacket. Thereafter, the next structures to depart will be the jacket and topsides for the ROA platform.

The Tangguh expansion is due to be completed in 2020, when the two platforms will join a third LNG process train, adding 3.8 MMt/yr of LNG production capacity to the existing Tangguh facility, lifting total plant capacity to 11.4 MMt/yr.

BP said 75% of Train 3’s annual LNG production will be sold to Indonesian state electricity company PT. PLN (Persero).
